Rafting along the Middle Katun

 Not far from the center of Koksinski region there is a village
The tour along the Katun River is one of the oldest and most popular
among Soviet and Russian tourists. It has become the most popular among
the tourists since the 1950-60s. Convenient approaches, a complete lack of
unmounted paths, a long rafting, picturesque nature, wonderful water and
still unspoiled environment make the place attractive for numerous groups
of tourists. The Katun river is characterized by its quite a slight slope,
local obstacles, a great length and a big river basin. Taking the waters
of the rivers Argut and Chuya, the Katun becomes the greatest river for
rafting (in summer it increases up to 600 -3 280,84 ft) on the territory
of the former USSR. Below Inya (a village), to be more exact - after the
mouth of the left tributary of the river Big Ilgumen there begins an area
of strong local rapids and cascade rapids, the final of which are the
Elandinski rapids just before a small village. When the water broadens
averagely, the part of the river is characterized by the breakers up to
11,48 feet (the Elandinski rapids), as for the breakers of 6,56 -8,20 feet
height - you will find them in great abundance. Here a flow turbulence is
of great importance for rafting. But in spite of the might and size, the
obstacles of the Middle Katun have quite a simple structure and, as a
rule, tourists overcome them without any difficulties. This makes the tour
"The Middle Katun" (which is of the forth complexity class) accessible not
only for professionals, but for beginners as well.
The security from the water is ensured by the insuring vessel - a
two-places catamaran, and from the shore - with the help of a special
device called "morkovka" (carrot) - a coloured bag with a long rope (65,62
feet) inside and a foam plastic at the bottom to throw to a man out of the
boat.
 Equipment: We shall provide you with all the necessary equipment: a tent for two persons (if you want you may live there alone, in this case, please, let us know about it beforehand), a warmth-keeping mat and a sleeping-bag, a mackintosh, special bags for carrying some cargo on horses, helmets, life jackets, waterproof packs for personal belongings, special equipment for rafting, a first-aid set, an awning to protect from rain, tableware and cutlery. WE EXPECT YOU TO TAKE YOUR PERSONAL BELONINGS: a small rucksack or a sports bag, a tracksuit, a mackintosh, rubber high boots, warm clothes for cool nights: a warm sweater, warm trousers, warm jacket, a knitted cap (to protect your ears), and wool socks. You will also need things for everyday wearing: a cloth-cap or a headscarf, trousers without coarse seams for horse traveling, a wind jacket, two T-shirts, a light shirt with long sleeves, sports footwear, socks (three or more pairs), shorts, two pairs of gloves. For rafting you will need: neoprene footwear, or trainers with wool socks, or river sandals for underwater swimming. You must have: specific medicine, personal hygiene belongings, some substance to protect you from insects, a torch, (photo) camera, sunglasses, swim suit (desirably), a clasp knife (desirably).
